OK, so are there really rules to follow when weaning 6 month old?

My DD, excl bf, is now 6 months and so we're weaning.. much to the relief of HV who thinks I'm a mad hippy for waiting... anyway... HV recommends the Annabel Karmel approach. Having read her book, I can't see this approach is for me so I'm going to go with the baby's flow and ignore 'first tastes meal planners' and purees.

So... we've started with breakfast cereal, Weetabix not baby version, I've given her hers with ebm and eaten mine with her with cow's milk (at breakfast time). Went down okay ish but she doesn't like being fed... so... am going to BLW as much as poss. I presume I dont have to start with AK's first tastes?? No allergies in family, other than hayfever, was going to just eat myself eg pitta and mashed avocado, and let her try too. But am I as my HV told me meant to start with carrot, sweet potato, etc and then move on? Same HV told me I had to start with baby rice... and that I could bf my baby 'until one year' but the benefits were over after 6 months... so I dont really trust her and am inclined to let DD set the pace and type of food (within reason!!!). Any thoughts?

You sound like you have a good approach to me.

Good god, what awful advice from your hv.
