My lo started off weaning brilliantly about a month ago but he has had a bad cold, vomiting etc. He is over it but will not take to solids again, we were progressing from pureed to lumpy before he became ill and now we've gone back to pureed but struggling to get him to take it.

He also won't sit in his highchair when eating without a fight for the spoon or bowl. If I hold him in my lap we have more success.

when do babies start to use cutlery on their own? I don't mean that they find there mouth everytime but have some success with it. Is 6 1/2 months too early. He is actually 8 1/2 months old but premmie.

Have you heard of Baby Led Weaning? Look it up on here or at babyledweaning.com It's basically where you give your baby finger food from the start of weaning but you could try him now on finger food and see how he gets on. He might prefer to be in control but he's probably too young to have much cutlery success!
