dd is 5mths 1wk...i am getting excited re 6mths and blw! she is grabbing at food/cups etc, and i am keen to encourage her interest by having her sitting up at the table with us to watch mealtimes - but not sure if she is ready for a highchair as head control still seems a bit wobbly? eating with her on our laps as we have been doing seems a bit dangerous now unless we're eating something cold, she tends to grab quite ferociously and i'm scared she'll get burned! thanks

As I remember, I put mine in one about this age - when grabbing out/looking around was such that feeding whilst sat on our knee became near on impossible. They sit in car seats. Stap them in - I'm sure nothing terrible would happen if you tried.

I think aslong as they can sit up, you should be ok. My DS took ages to master this!

MerlinsBeard · 10/05/2008 15:22

depends on the highchair i think. the wooden ones where they have to sit quite upright may not be suitable but there are ones you can get that recline slightly.

sit up unaided mozzybear?

they need better head control for those i think as they aren't high backed!!

Caz10 · 10/05/2008 20:08

I thought you might say that......i did suspect it...

OK now to persuade DH that not only do we need an extorionate high chair, we need another one too!

Does anyone have any recliney-recommendations then?

My DD's all sat in their tripp trapps v early. DD1, now 6, also has DS so was very floppy and she was in hers at 4 months. (In those days weaning age was 4 months old).
They have a high round back that you take off fro low back rest later and help keep child v upright. Best highchairs imo. All 3 of mine have one and all still use them, aged 6, 2 yrs and 7months

Thanks again - and Thomcat that is good news!

I have money that was a gift from work to spend on something baby-related, and I really think a Tripp Trapp would be a great use of the money.
