What can I do or should he get better over time? We started weaning at 6 month and now he is still no better than the day we started he refuses the spoon and sometimes cried and will play with finger food ! I feel I have tried everything at this point and he just having none of it , should I take a break before trying again? Or keep going

Food before 1 is just for fun.

Just keep offering food and don’t worry about it.

First post nailed it

Strictlymad · 06/01/2025 17:44

First post is all you need!

Just keep offering.

Mine didn't eat or drink from a bottle until one when I dropped them at nursery to go back to work! Took a day or two to get really good 😂 still was wonky with me, ate with everyone else no problem

He definitely has eating days and none eating days but he's healthy, growing, eats when he needs but not if he's full

You can have a break of you want to. There's no problem with having a break at all. It's especially good to have one if you're both getting a bit stressed about weaning. Maybe don't offer a thing for a week and then try again?

Purinea · 12/01/2025 14:09

i think take a break, reset. He’s not eating anything anyway so what difference does a few days break make and at least you can both come back to it less tense. Make sure he’s got teethers, and maybe give him a spoon or something to play with too. Does he show any interest in your food?

Keep offering whatever you’re eating (within reason). Mine didn’t like the spoon so I just feed him with my hands which he is happier with. He’s now getting used to the spoon a bit more too as his confidence grows.

TinyMouseTheatre · 02/02/2025 08:29

How are you both getting on now @M212? Wink

M212 · 02/02/2025 09:43

Hi, great actually! would you believe he started eating the day after I contacted the PHN (she was considering a speech and language review if no improvement in 2 weeks) he is now eating 3 spoon feeds a day along with snacks and his bottles🫣 🎉

However, since about 5 months he is “stimming” a lot with hands opening and closing while arms out straight and humming this had increased over the last month this has definitely increased during meal times too so it’s something to keep an eye on 😩 so this is my biggest worry now it’s never ending !!

It's really good that he's started eating. In fact 3 meals a day plus snacks isn't normally achievable until around 12 months.

Stimming is perfectly normal in a baby too so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Even if he was older stinking wouldn't necessarily be a concern in isolation Wink

Thank you so much for getting back to me, he sees like a very health (and big) boy other than that !
