Weaning and reflux - what is your experience ?

My DS is now 20 weeks and still has bad reflux. I'm thinking about weaning him but have a couple of concerns: firstly, if his tummy is delicate I wonder if I should keep to milk as it's gentle; also, It's one thing being covered in regurgitated milk, not sure I fancy bits of carrot and parsnip all over me and the carpet.

The Hv says solids will help his stomach settle I'm happy to leave it for awhile but I did read that after six months they need more protein and iron than BF or FF can supply. HELP!

I have just posted a query regarding this. My 10 month old is a previous reflux baby but has problems feeding herself (finger food) and keeping down large lumps.

I would agree that giving her solids has definately settled her reflux but I would take it very slowly as my 10 month old gags at anything say the size of a raisin.

Initially she did a lot of vomiting which is a lot more unpleasant when its proper grown up sick but that has settled down now and she certainly no longer projectile vomits the way she did up until she was about six months old. She is also off her medication. But still does not sleep through!

Ds was a bad reflux baby and when he was put on meds at 5 months the PGE was very keen on weaning him. We did, and it did help (although as he was also started on meds at the same time it's hard to say how much was attributable to the meds and how much to the weaning).

DS1 is alomst 12 months, has been on meds for reflux since 7 months. Weaning definitely helped his reflux, but we found things like natural yoghurt made him more sick, think it was too acidic for him. Would suggest plain foods, and pretty smooth stuff. Trial and error is best.

eating has made my refluxewr loads better. i just keep him of anything acidic even apples are a problem. puree or veg mush( most stuff really if its a bit watery) always has a bit of baby rice mixed in and this seems to do the trick with the reflux. also still try to pace his food so he is not overfull with feeding small but often.

My son was 17 weeks when weaned due to his reflux, and it helped so much.

I did carrot and baby rice at first. We have just taken him off all meds at 10mo and he is going well!
