i know a lot can change in 6wks, but dd is 20 weeks and in no way able to sit up in a highchair...if she still can't do this at 26wks should i wait till she can?

wait and see

erring on the side of caution I'd wait, if only because it's a damn sight easier to wean them (slop or blw as you choose) if they can sit up.

it can change overnight, 6 weeks is eons in baby development time, wouldn't worry at all. I started feeding my little man in his bouncy chair but by the time we moved on to blw he was sitting up and it makes it a lot easier as mrs badger said.

Ds didn't sit well until 9 months! We had a lot of picnics on the floor with him propped up by cushions or leaning against me. His bumbo was quite useful for that stage too.

Caz - do you have a Bumbo? they are pretty useful for feeding at this age. However I do also feed her on my lap, this can be an easier way to hold her arms and stop her grabbing the spoon all the time!
I wouldn't wait much longer than 6 months though as you might find it harder to get her to accept new tastes if she is older.
I have only actually fed her in her high chair once so far.
