How do I get baby to put on weight (and sleep better)?

My dd is now 5 months and I introduced solids at advice of HV at 21 weeks (was this right?). The reason was a low weight gain over the previous 6 weeks which HV thought was a concern.
DD was a healthy birth weight but now heading towards the 9th centile (she is just above 13lbs). HV advised a few days ago that I need to increase the solids and put her on 3 meals a day (even at the detriment to milk intake).
DD is getting a lot less interested and for past 3 days has cried during these 'meals'. Oh and she wakes up 3-4 times a night for feeds (bf) and during day I give her a bottle (ff) but she only takes 3-4 oz per feed. What is going on? what do I do?
Any advice would be much much appreciated - is HV right? something is troubling me about her advice.....

More calories in milk than the food she would be able to take at this age, so yes can confidently assure you that HV talking through arse.
