8 month old ds with cmpa not interested in weaning

Hi all,
Looking for some advice. Ds2 is a few days off 8 months and has CMPA and also a suspected egg allergy (he’s been referred to the dieticians). I started weaning him at 6 months but he isn’t interested at all.
I’ve made many homemade dairy free purées which he clamps his mouth shut for. Ready bought purées he will have a few spoonfuls occasionally (only fruit ones). I’ve tried baby led weaning and finger food which he also isn’t interested in. If he does try any he normally gags and vomits as soon as he tries to swallow.

I did try him with some dairy free banana pancakes a few days ago which he happily chomped on but came out in a blotchy rash all over his torso, neck and face shortly after. I took him to the gp and showed her photos of his rash and she suspected it was an allergic reaction to the egg so said not to feed him anything containing egg until he is seen by the dietician.

Has anyone else has a baby at 8 months who isn’t interested in food? He was born 2 weeks early and doesn’t have any teeth. He can crawl but can’t sit unaided so I have to sit him on my knee when feeding him at the dinner table.

I can only go off ds1 who was a much larger baby and I was advised to give him solids at 4 months by the paediatrician. By 8 months he was eating 3 meals a day. On contrast he did have 6 teeth by then so I’m wondering if that’s what’s causing the difference?

Any advice appreciated!

I think it's pretty normal, especially if he's having reactions as he may just be a bit wary of food that can affect him.

I think it took my last one a while to get going as well Wink

@PolaroidPrincess thanks for your reply 😊 That makes sense! Hopefully he starts showing an interest soon x

Mine was like that. Still is!
He's CMPA and just not interested in food. He's 15 months now. Although he is better, he still has no interest in food, won't pick anything up , doesn't like textures and touching, I have to feed him everything. It really gets me down as I spend all day trying to get enough in him as his weight isn't the best.
8 months is still early, I'm hoping it'll pick up for you in the next few months.

That's ok. Once he gets to 9 months you could drop a bottle? If he's still not interested, let us know and we'll see if we can offer any other tips Wink

I didn’t have the same issue as you with lack of interest, but my baby has milk and egg allergies.

if he liked banana pancakes, you could try an egg free one? Mix one mashed banana with 2tbsp chia and 5tbsp hot water. Then add 3 tbsp oats. Leave for 10 min to absorb. Then fry like a regular pancake. Makes enough for baby and mum!

Thank you for your replies 😊
@Lucy211 Thats a great idea regarding the chia seed substitute, I’ll get some today while doing the food shop and try it out!
@Hazzyyy Bless you I can relate how it’s stressful, my eldest is a good eater but still enjoys to he spoonfed having just turned 3! Hope your ds and mine start enjoying food soon 😊

My allergy baby was similar, think she finally started eating at 11 months. It sucked!
With hindsight I'd have cut down on milk feeds a bit more militantly
