Introducing cow's milk...

DS is now a year old and it should now be 'safe' to give him milk to drink..

How do I go about swapping his formula for cow's milk??

I did it 1 bottle at a time (although he only had 2 by then!). I just put cows milk in in place of formula and he drank it without seeming to notice the difference. After a couple of days I swapped the bedtime one too and that was it. If your lo objects to the taste you could try mixing it with formula and gradually making it more and more cows milk e.g. 1oz cows to 6oz formula then 2oz cows to 5oz formula, etc

Formula is cows milk!

Actually it tastes a lot nicer than formula too so I don't think you'll have a lot of arguments from your DS!

Thanks Seona - MIL mentioned this but coming from the MIL it always gets discounted...

Ds2 was a year old on Thursday and it just so happened that I ran out of formula the same day.
Since then I just put milk in his bottle instead and he actually prefers it and now drains the bottle dry.I didn't phase it in with ds1 either-I just stuck the milk in his bottle.

Thanks WMMC - I am a bit dim ...

dd is now 14 months old and I replaced each bottle of formula with cows milk gradually...she has never noticed and tbh she is an absolute guzzler now! I am worried that she may be getting toooo much now!!

whomovedmychocolate · 21/04/2008 20:21

Nagapie - I doubt that you are

But I do think people sometimes think formula has some magical stuff in it when it's actually just mucked about with milk.

I found DD would only drink cows milk cold though (she's never had formula, I did contemplate it once but insisted on trying it first and after that.....well it went down the sink and was banished from the house).

Thanks for all the advice - DS, being a boy, will probably not notice...

I also just stopped all formula and gave every feed as cows' milk instead and it wasn't a problem at all. No more bottle-sterilising, yaaaay!
