Hi there, hope you can help.

My 8 month old dd was in a great routine up until last week. She was having porridge and fruit puree late morn and mashed veggies early eve alternating with her 3 x 7oz bottle feeds.
Last week she experienced her first cold and temperature and she refused her solids which is quite understandable. I just gave her bottle feeds and she relished the comfort and she seemed to sleep for longer too.
After 2 days of having just bottle feeds (I tried offering again but still refused and cried alot)she seemed to be feeling much better but she has just got herself so upset she has made herself sick. She will just not entertain food and gets very distressed!

I have had no choice but to make her a bottle and she couldnt drink it fast enough.Obviously very hungry! She has returned to her cheerful lively self so I thought she would be up to eating again but its just not he case. Should I keep trying even though it makes her cry. Its such a contrast to how well she was doing that I dont know what to do.

well certainly don't force it - you don't want to turn it into a battle

how is she with finger foods? could you offer her some bits to pick up to tempt her interest?

I vaguely remember that my DD didn't really get the hang of food and I ended up going back to purees and she gradually got the hang of it again and progressed as she needed too. I would be tempted to try that. You can still make the food you want, just puree/blend/mash it down more. Let's face it, drinking a lovely bottle is less effort than having to bite and chew.

Thanks for the comments. DH was feeding her when I came on to the pc for advice and by the time I went back downstairs she had finished her bottle and was fast asleep. It could be that she still isnt very well. If only they could let us know eh!

Have tried some finger foods but the only one she will take to since not being well is toast, but its better than nothing. As soon as she starts crying with her food I give her a bottle , like mrsbadger says, I havent wanted to turn it into a battle and put her off altogether. Thanks again.

If she will eat toast, puree up what you want her to eat and show her how to dip the toast in and lick it off.
