Can your dc's of around 7 months eat properly from a spoon?!

DS (7 months) sucks food off a spoon, just like you would suck milk from a bottle teat, and doesn't eat it 'properly'. That's obviously fine for smooth foods like porridge but makes it trickier for him to eat lumpier foods. He can do some finger foods ok, but will he learn soon how to do the spoon thing properly? It's not really a problem yet, I'm just curious, as I don't remember DD ever sucking food like that... interestingly, the books say that babies are incapable of sucking food from a spoon - he obviously hasn't read that part

does he have teeth?

I was wondering this last night. I have been very proud of the fact that DD (7 months) eats mainly solid food (wanted to try BLW as much as poss) and then realised that I have neglected trying to teach her how to spoon feed self! Tried it this morning with porridge and she has a go but obviously needs some practice.

Sounds like your DS is doing fine and it won't be long before he perfects this new skill, will just take some practice!

No, he doesn't have any teeth yet.

Ir's odd - nobody grows up not knowing how to eat from a spoon, yet it's not anything you can teach... and if they are able to get off a spoon another way then how do they learn to do it the proper way?! It's really puzzling me! Maybe they just do it one day and find that it's easier than sucking the food off...

I don't know and i can't remember what dd1 did. But i do remember giving dd1 a spoon while i fed her with the spoon i had if that makes sense.

I have noticed this week when i have started giving dd2 lumpy food she does seem to be eating of the spoon rather the sucking.
