How's about:

breadsticks, rice cakes, cucumber, melon, malt loaf (I think this is reasonably healthy...hope so, DS loves it) raisins (good for pincer grip!) or sausage rolls

MsSparkle · 06/04/2008 20:50

My dd loves fruit as finger food. She has mango, grapes, apple, banana, strawberrys (her favourate,) sometimes pineapple and pear. She also loves breadsticks and baby bells.

MsSparkle · 06/04/2008 20:51

For the pincer grip raisins are great and peas or sweetcorn.

Tutter · 06/04/2008 20:51

croissants

lionbeast · 06/04/2008 21:03

oh thanks so much! ill can try every single one of these, dd could do with working on her pincer grip, think she struggles a bit to pick up peas.

ms s by baby bells do you mean the mini cheeses? bet dd would like those

i love giving dd finger food, mean i can get a break for 2 mins while watching her of course!!

please add any other suggestions anyone

Yeah the baby bell mini cheeses. They are easy to take with you when you out as well. I usually break it up into 4 pieces for dd.

lionbeast · 06/04/2008 21:18

ok great ill get some of those tomorrow, dd loves cheddar

sandwiches - dd had cream cheese and avocado today - messy mushy fun!

Pavlovthecat · 06/04/2008 21:20

scrambled egg/omelette cut into strips.
Pasta - overcooked.
fruit pieces (apple and other hard fruit, cook a little so it is soft).
A whole banana?!! My DD loved it!

lionbeast · 06/04/2008 21:21

my DS currently loves raspberries, Organix crispy-type things (like giant wotsits but with no salt), well-cooked baby sweetcorn, though spits it out after chewing/gumming. Mini-ricecakes spread with other stuff good too.

MsSparkle · 06/04/2008 21:23

I get stuck for ideas for sandwich fillings?

Sidge · 06/04/2008 21:27

From about that age my DD3 has eaten pretty much the same as us - with her fingers!

Cheerios, Shreddies, toast, sandwiches cut into strips, fruit, veg, cherry tomatoes (cut in half), cucumber, breadsticks, cheese, scrambled egg, pasta, a roast dinner....

MsSparkle - for sandwich fillings I do ham, cheese, chicken, Marmite (just a scraping), cream cheese, peanut butter, tuna, egg, cucumber.

meep · 06/04/2008 21:30

Hi lionbeast!
dd also has a thing for prunes! As she's not got any teeth yet I mush out the soft bit in eth middle and she can't get enough of it - I'm sure if I put that on a piece of bread she'd eat it !

I use bread as a spoon when she is having a spoon refusing day! So her sandwich fillings are whatever it is she's meant to be eating!

Pavlovthecat · 06/04/2008 21:30

tuna is a good filling. or philadelphia - gets licked off mainly!

Monkeybird · 06/04/2008 21:39

I haven't tried philly or tuna yet - been worrying about salt content: do I need to?

Pavlovthecat · 06/04/2008 21:45

you do need to keep an eye on salt content, but if everything else is low salt, not being added and the rest of the food for the day is salt free, close to...i think its fine once in a while. I gave it to DD from time to time, once a week or so.

Sidge · 06/04/2008 21:45

Monkeybird - I would think as long as you use tuna in springwater rather than brine the salt content isn't a problem. Cream cheese is ok too.

Pavlovthecat · 06/04/2008 21:51

Agree - tuna in spring water is what we use too

lionbeast · 07/04/2008 13:37

thanks for all your great ideas dd is in for a treat

eggy bread
cheese on toast
mini pitta pizzas - strips of toasted pitta with cheese, tomato sauce and sweetcorn etc

pasta spirals with grated cheese
