refusing to drink milk, water or anything

DS is 8 months and since we have started to wean him he has slowly been going off his milk, when I first stopped BF he was taking 4 bottles a day of 200mls now each feed he will take between 20mls and 100mls at the max but this is with a struggle and lots of attempts to try to distract him while he feeds. He totally refuses to drink water, diluted juice or anything throughout the day so milk is his only liquid. I'm worried that he is going to firstly get dehydrated and secondly that he is not taking 600mls which the Hv keeps telling me in the minimum he should be taking. In the morning I mix the milk with porridge and he happily eats that. It isn't because he is full as after a full night with no feeding he still won't take him morning bottle....What can I do? He happily eats his solid food.

Hi kitty, remember that if your son is eating plenty of fruit and veg, that contains lots of water. Is he doing plenty of poos and wees? If so, it's probably best not to turn it into a battle although I know you are probably worried. If you are worried about calcium, you can give him yoghurt, fromage frais and cheese. My daughter never liked drinking milk (apart from breastfeeding). She doesn't drink 600mls of fluid a day now at 19 months and seems perfectly okay.
