Weaning, how to?

My little one turned 6 months a couple of weeks ago, so I've started introducing some solids, mainly purees, but I'm not really sure what to do or when.

At first, she kept sticking her tounge out and pushing everything out, that seems to have stopped over the past couple of days. I'm mainly focussing on just giving her something like porridge or a fruity puree about 45 mins to an hour after her breakfast bottle. She barely eats any, I assume at the moment this is normal, maybe about two spoonfuls if I'm lucky? And that's mainly it for now.

How did everyone else approach weaning? Time of day, type of food, and how much would your babies take?

When did they eventually eat enough to call it a meal?

Just looking for some insight from other experiences out there.

At 6 months it's more about exploring textures and having a bit of fun so anything they manage to eat will count as a meal Wink

You don't have to necessarily stick to traditional breakfast items either just because she's eating at that time, she won't yet have the same association as we do.

This guide from the Caroline Walker Trustt* gives some good suggestions of first foods to try, ideas for finger foods and advice on portion sizes.

Sounds like you're both doing really well so far though Wink

I’m following Joe Wicks Wean in 15 and Rebecca Wilson What Mummy Makes books roughly! Although offer food before milk as to me that makes more sense!

We started with dinner as mornings are a bit hectic for us as we have a night owl! Started with purées but she much preferred the combined ones from Joes book as I think they’re thicker but now she’s just turned 8 months she’s loving finger food more- think muffins/scones/pasta she can shovel in herself! Added in lunch recently!

I don’t think we need to worry about actual meals until they turn 1 as until then they get most of their nutrition by BF/FF
