Marmite?

Also, if I give him cereal such as weetabix can I use cows milk or should I use ebm? I know you can use cows milk in cooking but can you use on cereal? It such a pain in the arse expressing! Thanks!

a small scraping of marmite every so often should be ok as it is quite salty. You can use full fat cows milk with cereal and in cooking from 6 months so yes it will be fine with his weetabix.

Am pretty sure that cows milk fine on the cereal at that age - I think that I had swapped the EBM for cows by then. Can't remember what age the marmite is allowed. Mine definitely were definitely having it at 12 months - maybe about 10 months, not sure (hate it myself, but DH and DCs love it ).

thanks! Its definately a love it or hate it thing, me and dh love it so hopefully ds will too.

cows milk is ok(full fat) for cereals or whatever really. Im giving it to my ds (6mths).

And he has also had a small scraping of marmite on toast too, which he seems to like!

Marmite on weetabix?

Actually weetabix is a bit high fibre for little ones I thought. Also bloody dangerous, that stuff goes like glass on the floor and when you stand on it two days later you cut your foot. Your son will think it hilarious, you may not share his view

I'd have to express for about a week to make enough milk for DD's cereal so I feel your pain. Blue top (full fat) milk is fine though.

carmenelectra · 24/03/2008 14:46

The marmit probbaly ends up on the weetabix. lol

I dont think weetabix too high fibre for a baby, they only have a bit. It is a bugger to get off stuff tho. Dries like cement.

As if weaning isn't messy enough! imagine the carnage with some mashed banana too

This is similar to what I was going to ask but just to clarify - I've been avoiding salt (ds nearly 8 months) altogether but noticing references on MN Weaning to all sorts which I don't give him, inc. marmite. So small amount is ok now? Re tinned mackeral, hot cross buns, processed cereal etc!! Not sure what rules are?

ladykay · 28/03/2008 07:46

oh it's okay, just found old post re pesto and peanut/cashew butter. Up to 1g a day. must get some cashew butter, but put an adult proof lid on it.

helips · 28/03/2008 09:22

Ladykay, the first finger food I gave to my ds was some hot cross bun! Haven't tried marmite yet but the consensus seems to be that a little bit won't do any harm.
