Can follow on milk cause constipation?

Hello! DD2 has had major surgery on her bowels (was born with an imperforate anus) and when she had her colostomy reversal last month, the constulant said she's not to get constipated. I've since had to get lactulose from the gp as it didn't matter how much fruit/fluids etc I gave her, she was still very solid. I've just twigged however that it has been since I started giving her SMA RED instead of GOLD that she has been more solid! Could this be the cause? I'm reluctant to mess around her milk without at least getting somebodies opinion. If anybody agrees it could be that, I'll be buying her some SMA gold asap!

Cheers in advance...

might do as it has more iron in it?

if the Sma gold was ok for her, no need to change IMHO

Yes, it could. Changing milk often causes constipation, and follow-on milks seem very prone to causing it.

Stick with what you know she tolerates better.

Yes, it could be the follow on milk. I've heard that it's the iron in it that can cause constipation.

Yes it can make them extremely constipated. Poor DD2 had awful trouble when she went onto it. At the time I put it down to diet and tried all kinds of things. I then saw a post by Hunkermunker about it, switched back to the first sort and hey presto back to normal!

Also there is absolutely no need to use follow on milk as the bog standard kind is fine until 2 years old. As long as the child gets some iron in food they are not going to suddenly be anaemic. That fear would appear to be a marketing ploy by the manufacturers.

Brilliant, thats it, I'm going to buy a tin of SMA Gold tomorrow morning (will have to get it at the garage being Easter Sunday lol!). Thanks for putting my mind at rest !!
