Losing the tongue thrust reflex

Is losing this reflex something that babies do with practice, or do they just naturally lose it? DS is thrusting out his food at the moment - he's 6 months and only into his 4th day of weaning and I'm curious as to whether he will just naturally stop it when his body is at the right stage, or whether it takes eating practice for him to lose it.

i thikn they lose it when they are ready to. losing it is a sign they are ready for food. www.kellymom.com has some good info

I thought that about the food too, Camilla - that's why I thought it was odd that DS still had it, as he's 6 months now and I thought most babies were read for food by this age. Ho hum...

babycarrot still had the reflex in the first few days of weaning but lost it within a week! I think I've read something by a doctor in the last fortnight about it going with a little practice too.

we weaned at just over 6 months too. She is fab at solids now. Give it a couple of days and see how you get on!
