BLW - does it always have to be finger foods?

Sorry for 2 posts in a row...

I cooked up some sweet potato and mashed it (not pureed). Should I decide to go with BLW, is there anything to stop me putting the mush on a highchair and letting DS (6 months today!)pick that up? It just seems a shame to throw it away if I go BLW. Why is BLW only ever mentioned in the context of finger foods - is it because anyhthing other than 'proper' food defeats the object of getting them used to real eating? Or are they only capable of picking up chip shapes at this age?

dd used to eat mashed potato at that age, no problem. give her a shot. or load up a spoon and pass it over, i know loads of people who do that.

or tbh if you feel like it just spoon feed her, it's not like one spoon-feeding sesh is goiing to stop her ever eating finger foods again.

but yes, in answer to your question i think it's chip-shape finger foods because when they're very wee they are easiest for them to hold. but dd preferred big chunks within a few weeks anyway, so it's all subject to change.

my DD is now 1, and happy eats shepherds pie/curry and rice with her hands. TBH I'd rather spoon-fed as she makes a rotten mess, but she prefers to stuff it in herself. I think she's been doing this from around 9mo (she had fingers foods and was spoon-fed the softer foods before then).

Mix it with a bit of Philadelphia cheese and spread it on a rice cake/bit of toast. Mine absolutely LOVES this! (and so do I actually )

I do my own version of BLW, I make shepherds pie, curry and rice ect and dump it on the highchair tray and ds picks it up and shoves it in his mouth. He's 10.5 months. He much prefers that to be soon fed, rice dishes are great if you use basmati rice as it is really sticky and easy to pick up (maybe I'm not cooking it right and it's not actually supposed to be like that!)

Sorry, I didn't see PerkinWarbeck's post mine is almost identical! At least I'm not alone, my friends think I'm barmy
