Advice on getting started

i am hoping for some advice on beginning a weaning journey for my little one. I am completely new to this and finding it a minefield. I please ask that responses are kind.

DS is 6 1/2 months. Before now I had dipped in and out with Baby rice, rusk, purées and mashed fruit/veg and he was never overly interested so I didn’t stress if we missed a day as he was happy with his bottle feeds.

as a household we are just getting over 3 weeks of horrible illnesses- severe bronchiolitis and norovirus. This has thrown us out of routine and I’m now trying to get back on track including starting his weaning again.

i have started offering similar foods and my DS is showing much more interest! I think he is ready to begin with finger foods but I don’t know what to give him, size, portion etc so any advice would be great.

side note- he has lost quite some weight from being unwell. His feeds massively reduced when he was ill and we still aren’t back to the amounts he was drinking before his illness- almost as if his tummy has shrunk. I have no idea if this is normal at all for a baby and again would appreciate any advice.

my approach has always been to listen to my gut as a FTM but I am just so worried I’m not doing right by DS at the moment.

I'm so sorry that you've all been ill. It sounds as though you've had a really rough few weeks Flowers

Have you tried him with any finger foods yet? I'm not sure what you're eating today but absolutely most things can be considered a finger food. I can remember DD enjoying a roast dinner at that age, particularly the smallish Yorkshire puddings and roast carrots.

This guide is quite good too as it gives information on portion sizes, which can be difficult to get.
