How much is roughly normal for meals for 6mth old (tho I know there's no such thing as normal!)

Am pureeing stuff for 6mth LO - she is loving it all and happy with spoon. She is currently on 5 milk feeds in 24hrs (BF) and has lunch and tea about an hour after milk. For each she is guzzling down about 3 ice-cube equivalents of grub (grabbing spoon and steering it into her mouth v happily!) Is this normal - she doesn't fuss for more (or yell) but equally I think she could probably keep going for more..... Do I feed until she refuses food? I feel like I want to quit while ahead with her as she is doing so well (and we are having FUN!) and I don't want to force anything.? She has been on solids for about 3wks now.......

I'd say that is fine, believe you me all babies are different and as long as she is happily taking it and it's not rubbish then let her have it! I just wish my 6 month old DD would show an interest, she is just not that bothered about food yet - although she does like to hold the spoon herself so I try to put some puree on it and hope it goes in!

Good luck!

I'm going through similar quarandaries ilovenutella. I was giving ds really big portions and he was guzzling it down, but I realised he wasn't taking nearly as much milk at the next breastfeed (it's so hard to tell, but I felt my milk supply was down quite a lot) and I thought he might be getting a bit dehydrated as it's his only source of liquid (his poos were quite hard) so I reduced the quantities a bit and he's back to having what I think is a satisfactory amount of milk (I hope so)

Currently he has...

8am breastfeed
9am tablespoon (dry quantity) of ready brek with cows milk
midday breastfeed
1pm 2 ice cubes of veggies, today it was broccoli and sweet potato, with a bit of baby rice to thicken it a bit, and a dash of cows milk to cool it down.
3.30pm breast feed
5pm tea, some cooked fruit and baby rice or yoghurt and banana
6pm breastfeed with top up bottle of ebm expressed in the morning, not much any more, today I only managed 3oz.
11pm breastfeed (dreamfeed)

Fio Fio - that is roughly what my DD is doing at the moment bar the dreamfeed. I feel a lot happier now - she has just guzzled a whole load of pear and apple..... I am also trying to avoid that whole 'one more spoonful' thing. I personally love my food but my DH is fussy as hell so maybe I should try weaning him!...!

Oh, yipee, just realised that DD can have cows milk now she is 6 months! That will make life easier.

Fiofio, I wish my DD would eat what your DS does, she is a terrible fussy eater atm. One day she will try something then the next day she decides she hates it! All very frustrating.

mumdebump · 13/03/2008 20:15

Isn't cows milk only for cooking with at 6mo? Don't think they're supposed to drink it until 12mo.

helenelisabeth · 13/03/2008 22:32

Hehe mumdebump - that's what I meant, in cooking! Sorry to confuse you!
