DD is 7.5m old. She has three meals a day mixture of finger foods and mashed our food. I currently also BF her at 7.30am, 10am, 3pm before her tea at 5pm and bed time. HV says I should cut down the BF drastically and give fruit and stuff at 10am and 3pm.. It seems early to me- my DS's didn't have solid snacks until c 10/11m......
She said DD would get anemic. I though Breast milk had iron in....
Help my confidence has been knocked by this woman....

That reminds me of a dietician who suggested I gave my dd chocolate milkshake if she wouldn't drink milk!

yep was recommended to try angel delight for ds2 as he was long n lean and not a fan of cheese and yoghurt at 8 mths. Although taking immense amounts of breastmilk. So hv said angel delight...

Do Hv all have different training or are they just told never to give the same infomation.

I was told to give dd2 more milk after them asking why dd2 had only put on a 1lb in 6weeks. DD2 was 19wks and only taking 4 - 5oz milk at a time (me fighting her and taking ans hour) even after i exsplained that if i managed to get her to take anymore she would just bring it back.

Even now at 28wk she only having a 5oz bottle at 6.30am, 10am, 2pm, 7pm and 11.30pm with 2 meals a day at 12pm and 4pm. If i try to give her breakfast she just brings it back.

Angel Delight??
Fucking hell you think that the barrel has been well and truly scraped then some idiot comes out with a cracker like tihs.

quite moondog. Ffs she saw me cook him maple and rosemary pork fillet. Carrots in butter and oj. With sauté potatoes.
like I'm then gonna give him angel delight? Infact I don't even know what's in angel delight. I've never examined it. I just know its as wrong as the wrongest wrong thing.
from breastmilk to angel delight? Why could she just not have said. Try to pop in an extra feed in the day or recommend a good milk pudding like semolina etc ffs she knew I love to cook fresh food!

Angel Delight is a concoction - main ingred is sugar, but it has all the processed stuff you'd expect as well. It's basically a way of getting milk into kids in a way they find acceptable, and I quite often hear of HVs recommending it...crazy, in my view, as it is not really a 'food' and if you absolutely have to sweeten and flavour milk, then it would be healthier to add the sugar yourself to milk, and whizz it up with some fresh fruit - would take no longer and would prob taste better, too. Over time you could even reduce the sugar content and stick with the fruit only.

Far better to try some fruit whizzed up with some milk, i would have thought, strawberries, bananas, melon etc..i tried it with mine..like a milkshake..and delish! Far better than angel delight!

BITCAT · 28/03/2008 14:48

I tried honey with mine, only tiny bit mind!! just to sweeten a little, doesnt sit on bottom of cup or glass like sugar does..because i had some too the kids, were after it. If i've got it they always want it.
