Stokke tripp trapp Vs hauck alpha

Would love some thoughts on these two chairs - obviously Hauck is much cheaper, but a few online reviews say the safety bar gets in the way of baby eating at the table - is this true in practice? Hard to justify the Stokke cost and second hand options near me don't seem like good value (which I guess means I should be able to resell if I do buy it).

It looks like the main problem with the Hauck bar is the height. It probably wouldn't work with my table because there's a big section underneath the actual tabletop that the tabletop sits on (if that makes sense?) that would stop me pushing the chair in close enough. It would probably be okay with a table that was just flat tabletop on legs.

My ds used his Tripp Trapp as a desk chair until he left home and we then passed it on to someone else. By Girl Maths I think that makes it free!

Hoogieflip · 05/10/2023 09:39

What's "Girl Maths", please?

Solasum · 05/10/2023 09:41

I am now using a Tripp Trapp as a desk chair. It has been used daily for 10 years. Definitely worth the cost to us

Had a Tripp trapp for my first two. Loved it. Recently sold it and now unexpectedly expecting #3. It’s top on my list of things we need to buy before she arrives.

Still using our Tripp Trapps 18 & 22 years later.
Fantastic things!

KinshipCorner · 05/10/2023 10:15

Still using our 3 Tripp Trapps as chairs at the kitchen table.
2 set up as adult chairs and the 3rd still adjusted for the youngest to sit comfortably at the table.
DCs are now 16, 14 and 11.
No plans to replace since they're lovely to look at and work perfectly.
I consider them to be very good value for money (but I do acknowledge that they are eye wateringly expensive these days).

I wouldnt get Hauck.
We have a stokke tripp trapp and a hauck.
The tripp trapp ds has used daily for 3.5 years and its as new. He spills food and paint on it 3-4 times day and its cleaned repeatedly.

The hauck we bought for holiday rental, its used maybe twice a year by rental guests, and occasional time we have friends with baby or toddler visit. So max 3 weeks a year. The paints all peeling off, and its a crappy chip board type wood in many areas not solid. It wouldnt have lasted more than about 3 months as main daily used seat

CurlewKate · 05/10/2023 10:58

We need to do a "Who's been using their Tripp Trapp for longest?" competition!
Sorry, @Hoogieflip! Girl math is a silly tictok thing- if a coat is 50% and you buy 2 one of them is free. That sort of thing!

Writerz34 · 05/10/2023 18:50

Thanks all. So I think I'm convinced the Stokke is worth the investment compared to the Hauck. Now I need to convince myself the Stokke is worth it compared to the IKEA chair with an added foot rest!

Tripp Trapp still being used here with DC aged 11 and 9. We were given one and bought the other from eBay.

Belltentdreamer · 05/10/2023 19:09

Love our two Tripp Trapps - in daily use still with a 3 year old and 6 year old plus all the childminding kids

headcheffer · 05/10/2023 19:38

We have the hauck alpha and it's brilliant. I've no clue about the painted one? But mine is solid wood and it's fab. If I had another child I'd buy another as this one will last my DD for years!! I would recommend to anyone.

Kaffiene · 05/10/2023 19:43

I have had both and don’t think the Tripp trapp is worth the extra money. Haunk is solid wood and been user for 4 years so far. But I would recommend getting the ikea one for weaning. So much easier to clean. Then switch to the Haick when they start trying to climb out of the ikea one.

StillWantingADog · 05/10/2023 19:47

We had both. Tripp trapp worth the extra money IMO and has good resale value. But no issues with the Hauck which we used for 2-3 years
