Have I rushed things?

My DD who is nearly 7 months has been weaned for 3 weeks now and is taking well to all the veggies and fruits I've given her, apart from Banana which she literally shuddered at!! I hate banana so I wasn't suprised!!

However, I thought I would try a cauliflower cheese recipe from Annabel Karmel and it tasted yummy to me! She ate about five mouthfuls and then started gagging on the others and then proceeded to vomit the whole lot up? I didn't want her to be hungry so gave her some butternut squash which she wolfed down, do you think I'm rushing the 'mixed' food?

I've got loads of lovely fresh veggies, chicken, fish and was going to make some of the recipes out of AK book but now I'm not sure? Is it too soon to be giving her fish or chicken, or should I just stick to plain old veggies and fruit for a bit longer? She is still having 4 x 7oz bottles and yoghurt as well so I'm not worried about her intake nutritionally.

Any advice would be gratefully received

I think you probably are rushing things a bit - was the cauliflower cheese lumpy? it can take them a while to get used to lumps. also cheese is very salty for a 7 month old isn't it?

I don't think you're rushing it particularly, but they are prone to gagging at this age, and the gagging does tend to trigger an "empty entire stomach contents" reaction. It doesn't need to be a big problem, just one involving lots of laundry.

The cauli cheese was completely smooth as I've got a Beaba Babycook which puree's everything. It was a recipe for 7 month olds from AK book, so I thought cheese would be OK?

I've got a completely irrational fear of choking and gagging and can't bear to see her doing it, I know its a normal thing I've got to go through, but it still scares the life out of me!

I will probably wait another week or so before giving her anything 'mixed'.

Thanks for your advice.
