How to drop day breastfeeds when baby feeds to sleep?

DD is my second child and she’s 11 months - she is breastfed and I would like to stop by about 14 months tops. I had it in my mind I’d bf up until she turned 1 but that’s not going to happen at this rate!

With DS I very deliberately stopped feeding to sleep and was much better at putting a lot of effort into getting him into his cot awake for naps from 6m, he took a dummy and settled pretty well after a while but in the early days the effort to settle him was exhausting. So with DD I’ve just kind of let it slide, and still let her feed to sleep for naps and bedtime. Tried sleep training but she usually screams if put in cot awake which keeps DS awake, and the settling is again exhausting for me or DP (who usually ends up successfully settling her).

So my question is, how do I start to drop a day feed when she feeds to sleep? What did you do when you had to put your baby down awake, did you sleep train or did you switch to rocking them to sleep or something? She very rarely lets me rock her without getting really upset so I imagine I’ll be having to put her in the cot…just hoping for tips to make it easier!

Sorry you haven't had any responses to this.

Just giving you a hopeful bump.

There is a Facebook group called Beyond Sleep Training that has some good advice for weaning that doesn't involve sleep training (personally I'm not up for sleep training he's old enough to understand what's happening).

I should add that I've not tried any of them yet. I am planning on weaning my 15 month soon though Grin I hope you get some good advice on here that I can use too!
