Hi. Could really do with some advice. My 5 month old is currently ebf, not out of choice as I always wanted to combi feed but DD refuses bottle.

has anyone given milk and then formula in a sippy cup with success? Someone said to me she may get confused offering her both drinks in the cups.

I just don’t know what to do and I don’t want to bf anymore. My plan was to finish at 6 months.

I don't see the problem, if she will take your milk from a sippy cup then hopefully she'd take formula from one too. It's not confusing for her but you need to be ready for the possibility that she won't like the taste so maybe mix them together at first to get her used to it using slightly less each time

So she drinks breastmilk from a sippy cup? If yes, I think that's half your battle over and I'd try her on formula. She might be fine. If not, mix breastmilk with formula. Mostly breastmilk with a dash of formula to start and then try and slowly increase the ratio.

I'd give one of the BFing Helplines a call. They should be able to help you to come up with a plan on how to stop.

I think the current advice is to drop one feed every two weeks. This will reduce your risk of Mastitis and get DD used to the increased amount of flozs she'll need to drink.

BF babies take on average 25 Floz in 24 hours, so if she does drink milk from a couple and only takes a couple of ounces, I'd treat that as a feed Flowers

Sorry ladies I have wrote the original message wrong.

What I meant to say was she is ebf and refuses a bottle. She has never used a sippy cup yet as she’s only 5 months and my plan is to do at 6.

Can I give her formula in one cup so I can eventually stop breastfeeding and water in another cup. Do you think this will confuse her?

Hope that makes sense

It shouldn't confuse her but she might not like it, that's not something you can tell until you try though. Some babies like different cups for different drinks Wink

I just feel like I don’t know how I’m gonna stop breastfeeding and when I’ve asked for advice from professionals they’ve not been able to answer and move away from the question xx

Just to check, have you tried other people feeding her when you're not around? Not uncommon for them to refuse bottles from you or if they know you're around but accept from others if you're not there.

Yeah I’ve tried all the tips and tricks she is just not interested. Although we made progress in the sense she doesn’t cry when we give a bottle she just plays with it lol
