Baby just not interested in rice

RachnEmily · 03/03/2008 18:52

Hi Everyone,

New to this- both mumsnet and being a mum.
I am trying to introduce rice to my daughter but she is hardly interested.
She takes about 1/8th of a spoon and thats it.
Is this normal, should I carry on trying with rice or try some pureed veg?
Or, give up altogether and try in a month?

Thanks
Rachael

How old is she?

Personally I don't blame her. Baby rice is foul and pointless IMO .

davidtennantsmistress · 03/03/2008 18:54

how old is she? typically i'd say if she's not interested then wait if you can. tbh thou my little boy never got on with the rice so I went straight to the veg purées - wish i'd done BLW from the start thou.

None of mine liked baby rice much. It took me ages to work out with dd1 that she wasn't eating because she didn't like baby rice. She liked most other things. She liked fruit, veg etc, other baby cereals.

needmorecoffee · 03/03/2008 18:58

thats cos it is yucky and tastes like wallpaper paste.
Try pureed apple or potato and carrot. Something yum.

at the risk of repeating

baby rice is icky gloop

if baby not interested , then leave it and give lots of milk

have a look at www.babyledweaning.com

Ooops vital info missed out.
5 months old.

in that case, i would leave it

clearly milk is more than satisfying her at the moment

www.kellymom.com has good info about readiness for weaning

seeker · 03/03/2008 19:12

Doesn't need food until at least 6 months - milk is all she needs.

OverMyDeadBody · 03/03/2008 19:15

Baby rice is vile, why bother?

Wait a month and then give her real food.

flowerybeanbag · 03/03/2008 19:20

What everyone else said, wait a month, give her more milk in the meantime if she's hungry, then give her 'proper' food. Have a look at the babyledweaning site lulumama linked to. I've done it with my son, and it was one of the best parenting decisions I've made I think, it's fab and so much easier than pureeing your life away!

colditz · 03/03/2008 19:22

Don't bother. the only thing baby rice is good for is to mix with pureed apple when a toddler has a dicky stomach.

MrsWaggsnapps · 03/03/2008 19:22

we're doing BLW too and it's fab AND I don't have to chip baby rice off all my kitchen surfaces.

flowerybeanbag · 03/03/2008 19:23

I just have to scrape banana off mine MrsW!

RachnEmily · 03/03/2008 21:06

Thanks everyone.
Am checking out Kellymom.
Will leave the rice and start properly in a month.
