a spoonful of cream won;t do any harm.. it is better than sprinkling it with sugar, IMO....

belgo · 03/03/2008 11:14

I would have allowed it. But then dd2 was so skinny at 8 months she needed all the fat she could get.

lionbeast · 03/03/2008 11:17

phew, mil has been dying to fatten up my little lady since she was born, just hope i havent opened the floodgates.
she wanted to buy her a chocolate advent calender when she was only 5 months

I had dd labelled FTT aged 8.5 months(although I told thm she'd had a lot of bugs, ffs)

I put cream in everything to build her up and get HV's off our back

belgo · 03/03/2008 11:18

lionbeast - you should have accepted the advent calender and eaten it yourself!

Ledodgy · 03/03/2008 11:18

I used to add cream to mashed potato when ds was 8 months and he loved it.

Ledodgy · 03/03/2008 11:19

babies do not need anything low fat.

belgo · 03/03/2008 11:19

babies do need to eat more fat then adults.

lionbeast · 03/03/2008 11:22

lol belgo i wounld't have minded a buttons advent calender

yes, absolutely fine. Babies need a lot of fat - that is why you should only give them full-fat milk until 2 years.

terramum · 03/03/2008 15:51

Children should have full fat dairy until they are at least 2 & shouldn't have low fat/skimmed until at least 5 as they need the calories... so some cream won't do any harm unless you are avoiding dairy. If you've used full fat milk in cooking etc then she'll have had it already anyway!

Might be worth checking exactly what kind if cream it was though (BTDT with my ILs ) the squirty stuff that comes out of a can contains sugar....

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 03/03/2008 15:53

I wouldn't encourage cream with bananas. Might not do harm but there isn't really any need for an 8 month old to be eating cream imho. Fruit should be eaten for its own sake, as soon as you start adding sweetners inducements you'll find the child will want cream every time.

lionbeast · 04/03/2008 17:01

wll thats how i felt nab, but she was basically begging me, and i haven't let dd have anything like this so far so she was making me feel really mean.

Your child, your rules. Ask her to justify why your child should have double cream at such a young age and turn it back on to her. She won't miss out by not having it but it won't do her any nutritional good by having it either.
