Nearly 9 month wont eat

Hi, hoping for some help please!

My nearly 9 month old started weaning at 5.5 months and was doing really well. Around a month ago he got a throat infection so that knocked it all off and now he has got his first tooth through so we're off again.

I feel like we haven't had a consistent period of him eating in about 2 months. He now refuses food, screams in his high chair and rocks himself back and forth.

Im trying so hard to keep offering him meals and not get too frustrated. He only ever seems to want fruit yoghurt pouches and im worried hes going to develop a real sweet tooth so trying to keep offering him savoury too. At the minute im only really offering breakfast and dinner but we're wasting so much food!

He has a little bottle (typically 60ml) when he wakes then an hour later i offer breakfast which occasionally he eats and often refuses but straight after will have bottle so i know he's hungry. Evening is the same. We sit him with us while we eat because i read its helpful but mostly hes more interested in chewing the spoon then has a mega tantrum.

Mealtimes now are something i dread as he screams and cries all the way through. Im wondering if its out of boredom or just that he doesnt see the point? Has anyone else been through something similar or have any tips?

Thanks

Sounds to me as though he's in pain. Is it definitely the teeth? Does he improve if you give him Ibruprofen half an hour before his lunch and a teething gel just before?

It sounds as though he's getting a bit of a bad association with the high chair. Have you tried offering food anywhere else? Maybe both sit on the floor with a Teddy or two and both have a little picnic? Or just sit him on your knee whilst you eat and see if he'll help himself.

How have you got on today @Jampot36?

Much better thanks.

Put some teething stuff on before food when i felt he needed it which has helped but ive also stopped offering bottle before food - ie in the morning we start with breakfast and then some bottle a while after/before his first nap. He's eating a lot more with very little resistance and this is day 2.

He did kick off tonight but i think he was tired and teeth so we ended up giving him yoghurt (which he loves) to make sure he is full before bed and hopefully sleeps!

Sounds like you've had a much better day Wink

Definitely switching up his bottle timings has made a huge difference.

Breakfast and lunch today was amazing but his last nap was fought and so late that he ended up having bottle too close to dinner so that was less successful - its all trial and error i think! The teething gel 20 minutes before is a great tip too.
