Constipation

Hello, after some advice please! My 7 month old is always constipated. He’ll go weeks without having a poo and when he does he strains for ages but a tiny hard poo comes out.
The doctor has prescribed two different types of laxatives but nothing seems to be helping. I make sure he drinks water throughout the day and has fibre rich foods. They think he might have CMPA but he won’t drink the milk so they said to carry on with kendmail as we shouldnt change his milk and we are waiting for a allergy referral but they said it could take months.
Has anyone got any advice?

Fibre rich foods can make constipation worse in little ones. You need soluble fibre and not insoluble and not too much of it. Key us fluids, ice lollies melons grapes etc. kiwi very good. What meds is your child on. If movicol really important it’s made up properly. Really important to get this right through weaning and potty training otherwise you end up like me- with an 11yo with issues

Have you managed to cut down his milk right down @Mumtobe888? At 10 months he only needs 400 ml a day and if you do manage to reduce the amount down to that it could help his constipation.

I'm surprised that they've told you to stick to Kendamil too. I know he won't take the anti-allergy milk but at least a Comfort formula would be more hydrolysed.

Sorry just realised he's 7 months. Lord knows where I got 10 months from.

Just wondering if you've cut dairy out of his diet(apart from the bottles, obviously) Wink

Have you tried the allergy milk with vanilla essence or Nesquik added too @Mumtobe888? It might make it more palatable for him Flowers

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto i had to put another thing up his bum today so he’d poo bless him! I went back to the doctors yesterday and she advised to mix his normal milk and the hypoallergenic milk so he’d get used to it. I did 3 scoops of each today and he’s had it fine so I’ll see how we get on!x
