Won't eat any lumps-help!

Ds2 is 10 months old and refused point blank to eat any lumpy food.
He isn't keen on my food, like ds1 was,so he is mainly having jars and still on the 4-6 month pureed food.
The only thing he will eat very slightly lumpy is a mashed banana. He's also not keen on finger foods either, except for toast.
I thought I would try a 7 month jar yesterday and mash it before feeding it to him,but he refuses to eat it and either spits it out or gags on it.
Any ideas please?
Tia

ds1 was like that. I just kept him on smooth food and gradually introduced lumps later. he was about 6 months behind the jar ages, and I whizzed all his homemade stuff smoothe till about 13 months I think (over a year anyway), then mashed for a while.

don't worry - he'll get there!

I would not worry. DS is 18 months and only just started on lumps, well perhaps at 15 months started, He would eat toast but that was about it, toast and sandwiches. He would refuce everything if it has a lump in it.

Suddenly he changed his mind and now eats everything with lumps. Was odd as it happened very suddenly.

I would just keep on tryin but trynot to stress about it, am sure it will come on.

Does your ds have teeth ? My ds only cut his furst tooth at 14 months so i always wondered if that had anything to do with it .

Pain in the ass I know, but I'm sure I've read somewhere that that can be quite common with babies fed on bottled food. I don't know how hectic your schedule is, but have you got time to make a few home cooked purees, and very gradually add in lumps? I've found Annabel Karmel pasta stars quite good to add to stuff, or spagetti chopped up tiny. if you make loads at once and freeze the success stories, it makes life a bit easier.

Or...is he teething? My LO gets MUCH more fussy when his gums hurt.

Thanks.
I know ds1 was also late eating lumps and thinking about it,it may have been around 12 months with him.
He does have 4 teeth though and can easily work his way through a Biscotti biscuit,so I guess he's just being fussy or lazy.

I would also recommend the pasta stars , they were good and got ds into pasta. now eats full size penne!

I never gave ds bottle food and he still did not eat my lumps.. was depressin once i had spent hours doing annavel karmel!

Bubbaloo · 27/02/2008 20:37

Ds1 would never eat anything except my food and I constantly had a well stocked freezer with lots of Annabel Karmel's recipes.
Ds2 on the other hand spits anything out that I have made.I would happily do the same for him and would prefer that he didn't eat jars, but he won't.
