Dairy free cheese

My LO is almost 10mo and can't have dairy. He's great with eating spoon fed and finger foods. Only problem is, can anyone recommend a good plant based cheese that doesn't smell funky as the smell is what's stopping him picking it up. Any good ones you can think of please let me know. Thanks

For anyone else who's lo has dairy free always check a product doesn't contain casein as it's a dairy protein that isn't always Labelled on packaging. Goats cheese contains this

My DS likes the Morrisons cheddar style block and I've found the Lidl vegan feta is pretty tasty!

DD was completely dairy free until she was 2.5.

I didn't use any vegan replacement products apart from Oatmilk (as instructed by dietician) due to the salt content and the high amount of synthetic ingredients. A lot of thickeners (like anything labeled 'gum') have been proven to have a detrimental and long-lasting effect on gut health.

I just gave DD other things like avocado, tuna, chicken etc. for lighter meals where I might have otherwise used cheese. Sardines are a brilliant source of calcium.

I also made a butterbean pate by blending them with herbs and lemon juice. She loved that (even though it looked a bit off-putting to me!).

Thankfully for us, the milk ladder worked and DD can now eat dairy!

My brother is vegan and mum went all out at Christmas, vegan cheese platters ... every one was rank! Even he wasn't keen on most of them. On the 27th I went to Tesco and spent £20 on cheese

Just give non cheese alternatives eg hummus

I've found the violife original grated is a pretty good substitute, especially in cooking and baking - DH and I will actually eat the results in family meals together with our cow's milk protein intolerant daughter, so great not having to make different things 😊

It's not advised to give anyone with CMPA milk from another mammal, especially a baby. The proteins could be similar and cause a reaction.

I buy the blocks of Cathedral City plant based. My partner and son who eat dairy have been converted too. I’ve never liked a vegan cheese before this one but it’s really nice.

All vegan cheese is revolting because they put coconut in it - I have been trying all vegan cheeses for a while now and they are all disgusting!

Cathedral city is the best one we've found. 9yo DD with CMPA here so we've tried loads over the years. It also melts well.

Cathedral City is amazing. Very like cheddar and nothing like other vegan cheeses I’ve tried, which were all awful.

I'm not intolerant neither is husband but we both do eat plant based so I'll definitely be buying the cathedral city as quite a few posters recommending. Thanks
