When did your baby start using cutlery?

Just that really, when did your baby start using cutlery by themselves (not counting pre-loading)? We have mostly done baby led weaning as it seemed to be my DD’s preference to feed herself and she can eat off a pre-loaded spoon when she wants to (other times she just waves it around and splatters food everywhere) but was wondering if I should do more to encourage her to use cutlery or if it’s too early? She just turned 1. Recently she is quite interested in using a fork but she doesn’t manage to eat much (even when I load it) so it seems like a distraction from actually eating.

I had to go through the photos to work it out.

He was born beginning of Feb and the earliest photo I can find of him using cutlery is early May the following year. He also appears to be comfortably drinking from an open cup in photos from June

Mine were both doing well with spoons by about eight months, but they're both very independent and were highly motivated by yoghurt.

Forks took a lot longer and two year old has recently started going and getting his spoon and using it no matter what we're having. Four year old currently working on using a knife, by which I mean we spend a lot of time telling him not to eat off it 🤦🏻

DC 2 and 3 starting by the age of 1, DC 1 was 2 or 3 and at 7 still prefers fingers!

My dc is 18 months and not using cutlery yet! Just fingers
