He has only just started eating small amounts of solids, but seems to want to eat my cereal. Has some allergies (egg and sesame), is milk protein intolerant and has had reflux, so want to avoid wheat etc. in case he is sensitive.

Is there any non-wheat, non(or low) salt, sugar etc. cereal that would be suitable? He tried to put my Shreddies in his mouth the other day..

Thanks!

Porridge???

dosydot · 22/02/2008 09:42

readybrek?

naturopath · 22/02/2008 09:58

he won't eat porridge as it's too mushy and off a spoon. Oatibix could be an idea.

try health food shops for wheat free cereals, there are a few brands that are also salt and sugar free which I'd be looking out for in cereals for an 8 month old.

Puffed rice might be a good option.

We used quinoa as a breakfast cereal for the first few months of weaning as DS had a reaction to porridge & I wanted to avoid wheat/gluten based stuff for a while.

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 12:02

porridge, ready breakor shredded wheat all have no salt in.

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 12:04

also oatibix porridge is salt/sugar free.

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 12:06

weetaflakes, oatiflakes and oatibix all have sugar in though.

make the porridge really thick, let it cool, then slice it for him to eat on his own.

I used to give one of mine grape nuts, they soften nicely in warm milk.

Baby Organix does some lovely fruity baby-rice-based porridgy cereals. My two loved them and they've got no crap in them.

also jordan's porridge and puffed wheat.

thanks for the suggestions - I remembered I had some organic rice puffs (containing only rice and nothing else) in the cupboard, so tried those with some rice milk. He loves it!

Might try the thick porridge cut up thing (although he didn't like straight porridge the first time) .. will have a look at the oatibix atuff.

Quinoa is a good idea - I have some of that as well - might try tomorrow.

the other thing tp take advantage of is that he has no idead what's 'breakfast food' and what's not.

Ordinary rice cooked in milk till porridgey is delicious...
