8 month old reluctant to touch food

First time ever starting a thread so here goes..

My little one is approaching 8.5 months. We started weaning around the 5/6 month mark with purées, which went down a treat. As my little one is a bit older now I’d really love to try a mix of BLW and purées however, she is so reluctant to touch/pick the food up.

Im always being told her physical development is quite advanced for her age, so I know that this isn’t the issue. Some things she is happy to pick up, like watermelon fingers, cucumber sticks or the melty baby crisps, but will then refuse to touch other things like a carrot stick, pasta or rice.

The health visitors in my area aren’t much help, and trying to get through on the phone has been a nightmare. I’m a first time mum and suffer with anxiety. I’m just not sure if this is something she will eventually grow out of, or if it’s something I need to help her learn. I have also offered food in a number of ways (on a plate, on the high chair table, while sat in a different type of chair etc) and have also tried to engage her in sensory activities (blitzed up some cereal to recreate sand, cooked spaghetti etc) and nothing seems to make a difference.

Any help/advice would be amazing and greatly appreciated.

Some babies are just more naturally cautious. If she's touching some foods and not others, she might just be showing a preference for sweet or processed foods which is fairly typical human behaviour Wink

I'd just keep offering her what she has now although I'd move to marked food rather than purée and offer finger foods on the side for her to play with. Really don't worry if she's not picking up food and feeding herself yet, a lot of babies haven't even worked out that food can satisfy hunger at this age and rely in the milk to do that.

One thing you could try is something like blueberry pancakes for you all for breakfast on a quiet day, she'll probably get the hang of picking those up once she's had a bit to try Wink
