I think the time has come to wean dd2. She is 5 1/2 months and only breast feed, no bottles at all.
Am i making life hard for myself as i have decided to use BM in her foods? How much do i need to express off? I havent left her so have none stored?
Help its been 5 years since i did this.

lisa

Why not using cows milk? I used to express straight into the food bowl if no cows milk to hand.

lisad123 · 17/02/2008 12:21

I thought cows milk was not recommended till they are 1years old! HAS THAT ADVICE CHANGED TOO?

no, you're fine to use small amounts of cow's milk in cooking, lisa, unless you're expecting allergies. it's not poisonous, remember, it's just not as nutritious as bm. good luck with the weaning!

lisad123 · 17/02/2008 12:28

good to know. Tanisha, DD1 had a lot of bowel problems, so has avoided anything else till now.

actually i think the cow's milk thing is after 6 months... go on lisa, do BLW, you'll love it!

hercules1 · 17/02/2008 12:33

Cows milk in food etc is fine. It shoudnt be the main drink before around 1 that' all.

hercules1 · 17/02/2008 12:33

Yes, it is 6 months.

lisad123 · 17/02/2008 13:23

LOL at BLW, wouldnt even know where to start. I have a great supply of BM so am sitting here expressing off first her first feed. Now do you BF after or before food?

you don't change their milk-feeding at all, just once a day (to start with) stick them in the highchair, put some finger food in front of them and let them get on with it. That's it!
This is the place if you need any more info, or ask on here for Aitch.

(steamed carrot sticks are a good starter)

and after a very short time the baby will be eating the same food as dd and the rest of the family, which is a bit of a bonus. ask skg, she knows all about it.
