8m gone off food

We started to weaning my girl when she was just over 6 months and she was doing really well.
Shes 8 months now and refuses to open her mouth to food.
We've offered her food she can feed herself, but she throws this on the floor. We tried purees but she clamps her mouth shut. We've loaded the spoon for her but she throws it.
Shes teething as we can feel a tooth pushing through.
Any advice or is it a phase she will pass?

Poor love, she's probably got a really sore mouth.

I'd give her Ibruprofen about an hour before her lunch or less if you can't manage an hour and put a teething gel on Judy before she eats.

Teething's not a linear process and not eating when she's poorly doesn't mean she won't ever eat.

Just make sure she has pain relief and her usual milk for a few days and she will come back to it Wink

@Mumof2UK1987 We’re going through this atm and it’s a bit stressful for parents! Did you little one pick back up her appetite for food and milk? Did this phase last long for you? X

Hi @Rawpheeha you might be better starting your own thread on this.

Has your DD ever eaten? What happens if you offer her food?

Purple89 · 08/07/2023 14:21

Hi @Rawpheeha my DD was exactly the same. She went from being a superstar eater to a couple of mouthfuls at best. It was the teething. Once the teeth came through she was back to normal. Then she got a stomach bug and we were back to square one again 😒

Just wanted to reassure you to try not to stress about it, it is just a phase. My DD upped her milk when teething, is your baby doing this? It feels really anxiety inducing when you're in it but my HV said it is completely normal.

Just seen this later post. As per the PP, keen to know if your baby ate well prior to teething?

I'm probably tell you things you already know but...

  • take the pressure off, put stuff in front of her and then sit and eat yourself but don't get anxious if she doesn't copy or do anything
  • Try some soft finger foods like banana and avocado
  • the melty sticks were brilliant for my DD getting familiar with holding foods, sometimes all she did was crumble them up in her fist but she thoroughly enjoyed it! You could try popping one of those in her hands

Have you spoken to your HV?
