Not sure what you're asking, Shell - you can keep breastfeeding and wean at the same time. I did BLW and breastfed, and gradually introduced a cup for milk.

hi shell,
are you wanting to give up breastfeeding and looking for advice on that?

Shell001 · 13/02/2008 21:28

I started on a v. basic tommee tippee cup at 6 months - skipped bottle entirely. Took a while, but she loves it now.

ruddynorah · 13/02/2008 21:32

why were you planning on being on the bottle? were you planning to bf for 6 months? it's ok to wean onto solids while stil bfing, that way your baby still gets all the benefits of breast milk.

AitchTwoOh · 13/02/2008 21:38

gosh, RN, it's better than okay, it's blooming brilliant. well done for keeping goiing, shell.

was planning to return to work in 3 months and thought best to be on bottle from 6 months so been trying to get on bottle and been trying formula but not much luck .. so from 6 months milk can be from cup ? and tommee tippee ones are good i did look at them but thought just for water ..

well yes, just that the OP sounds unsure that it would be ok. when in fact it would be a whole lot easier.

Shell001 · 13/02/2008 21:50

Its just leaving him with others hasnt been possible and thought this would help but im sure if needs be when weaning i can introduce formula or keep trying .. just feeds are abit random and feel i should have this weaning plan or try to fit into one .. im going to introduce rice tomorrow as DS is up alot now feeding in the night so i believe he is in need of more ...

I would just carry on bf, as World Health organisation says it's best till one year old. I bf and weaned with no problems, just squirted my own milk onto the baby rice, porridge etc! (took DH a while to get used to!). By 9-10 months you'll be able to go to work and just bf morning and evening anyway, as they're really cutting down by that stage. I pumped at work from 4-10 months and then just fed morn and eve after that. I wouldn't force him to have formula when bf is still the best milk for him till 1 year... just my two pennorth.
