Transition to blue milk - allergy?

Hi everyone

My DD is 1 on Monday and on Tuesday we started giving her blue cows milk instead of formula which she took to great. Yesterday she woke up with a faint rash on her cheeks and eyebrows and today she has woken up with her entire face bright red with a raised, angry looking rash. It’s bumpy to touch and looks swollen. Could this be due to the transition to milk or something else? She has been on Hipp Organic formula since 4 weeks old.

Please advise what to do, I’m going to go to the pharmacy with her when it opens but I’m gutted as it’s supposed to be her first birthday party tomorrow and don’t know whether I should cancel now :( has anyone else ever had this?

It's quite common for babies to be allergic to cows milk - would you try an alternative like oat milk? I don't think you should cancel the party, unless she's in a lot of discomfort. I hope she gets better soon Smile

While a cows milk allergy is not uncommon she has been formula fed so has been having cows milk proteins all her life. I wouldn't rusk to blame the milk. It is more likely to be something else causing the rash.

I would be very surprised if it was the milk if she's had formula containing cows milk proteins her whole life. Although it would be sensible to stop just until you've 100% ruled it out. Have you made nay other changes recently e.g new bedding, laundry detergent or bath products?

I wouldn't cancel the party unless she seems unwell in herself.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

i’m racking my brain trying to think of other changes but the milk is really it. I’ve noticed a tiny rash on her hands too so I do think it’s possibly something she has eaten and it’s a contact type rash. Here’s a picture for reference.

can’t wait for pharmacy to open!

Maybe go back to the formula and introduce the cows milk more gradually

Has she not been having cows milk on cereal? Any reaction to that?

A cmpa rash usually comes up quite quickly so if she was having a drink at breakfast or milk on her cereal you'd notice it well before her going to bed and waking up with it.

The fact it is on her hands does also suggest it's something she is possibly touching. Has she got any new toys recently, new clothes or tried nay new foods?

Skyupsky · 11/03/2023 08:53

No rashes with milk with cereal, or cheese yogurt anything else like that so I am starting to think it’s maybe a food or something. I had her at a soft play the other day - maybe a toy or a cleaning spray? Really don’t know I hope it looks better for her party :( I’m also worried it could be something that can be passed on - maybe uninvite other babies and just have family? Argh!

Thank you for all your replies. I’ll update after pharmacy.
