Hiya all,

My dd is 6mo and I've been weaning her for about 3 weeks. Have mixed fed since she was born and her meals have kind of replaced her daytime bottles. Now mainly breastfeed her all through the nght.

I know the guidelines say that she should be on 4 7oz bottles a day but I dont think she's having that much milk? Although i dont know how much she has when she bf.

I wanted to bf until she was about 1 but should I be ff instead now??

Heeeeeeelp!

Thanks MNers.... you guys have been great so far....

xx

just me I would carry on bf if I were you much easier
is she having any other drinks in the day like water with meals?

I always gave milk at different times to solids so that ds wouldnt cut down on milk so quickly - could you add in the breastfeeds(or even the formula) during the day rather than being up all night feeding? There is no need to formula feed if you still want to breastfeed.

At 6 months ds was doing the following:

7am - milk
8am - breakfast
11am - milk
12pm - lunch
3pm - milk
5pm - dinner
7.15pm - milk
(up to 8 months - night feed of milk)

The minimum recommended for babies from 6 months up to 1 year is 20oz of milk and that includes milk with cereal, in foods, in cooking, dairy products, etc so doesnt all have to in drink form. Does your lo take other fluids during the day/with meals, etc

I agree with seona ds2 is 7 months and we do
milk 7ish
bfast 8
milk 10.30
lunch 12
milk 3
tea 5
milk before bed
that way he's getting food and milk
mind you mine still has 2 bf at night as well[ grin]

Thanks everyone!!

Routines were particularly helpful (having some probs with sleeping too but have posted under sleep) so want to try and work in some routine now.

Andie and seona - where in those routines do your dc have naps??

I've been doing

8am - wake up - milk
9.30 - breakfast
1pm ish - lunch
6pm - dinner

and then bf as and when she decides she wants it. Might try and work a bit more structure in and follow the times you guys use (wit some adjustment as she sleeps at 8pm and wakes at 8am)

actually - add an hour to your meal times and thats where Im kinda at!!

She has some water or milk with meals but very little

mine has a nap after breakfast from about 9 till 10 then he has a longer sleep after lunch for about and hour and a half

Seona1973 · 09/02/2008 18:13

naps were around 9/9.30am and after lunch. now ds is older he has just one nap which is normally after lunch (to fit in with the nursery run for dd)

justme27 · 09/02/2008 23:04

sounds similar again = dd has naps at around 10am, around 2pmm and then around 4.30-5

great!

am going to try my new nap and food routines from tomorrow and see how we go!!

thanks all

xx
