Food strike after sickness bug

Does anyone have any tips to help 8MO baby get over eating strike after our first sickness bug? He hasn’t been sick since Saturday, and he’s nursing normally again and clearly hungry but seems to have a sensory issue or something with solids now? He used to eat everything, now bats the spoon away immediately and only throws finger foods on the floor. I can sometimes get him to take fruit purée straight from the pouch and that’s about it. I wouldn’t worry too much and give him time to figure it out but unfortunately eating less solids has brought back his reflux now so he’s pretty sad bringing up milk at night now ☹️

Oh the poor love. Do you think he has a sore throat or sore ears? Have you tried him with a dose of ibuprofen about an hour before his solids and a teething gel just before?

Oh no, it hasn't even occurred to me to offer calpol before food! He's slowly starting to eat little bits again, literally just nibbles on stuff but at least a step in the right direction, but if I don't see bigger improvement by tomorrow I'll try that! I think he might be teething too.

Don’t worry, refusal is a very normal and common stage.

My DS hoovered up everything in sight from 6-7 months and then barely ate again until 9 months. He just didn’t want to.

His main nutrition will still be coming from milk, so just keep offering food but most importantly do not get stressed if he doesn’t eat it.

Ibuprofen makes reflux worse as it increases acid production in the stomach!

I fondant know that @MatchaTea

Suggested Ibuprofen as the Maxio-facial surgeons I've seen have always said that it's much better for dental pain than paracetamol.

The medical advice is different for dental surgery or extraction and a baby with reflux. One should also consider if pain is acute as it is the case for intervention or chronic as it is the case for teething likely to be ongoing over the course of months when teeth erupt one after the other
