I'm having the same problem Mumbot. My LO is 8 months and is refusing to be spoon fed and wants finger foods only. I been giving her toast, veg, rusk etc but I am worried that she not getting a balance diet. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get her to eat some protein in her diet? I was giving her chicken and lentils as pureed when she was eating pureed foods.
Thanx

ds 8 mo will eat bits of chicken and sausage. He only likes yoghurt on a spoon ! But I'm sure that will change to his own grubby little fist pretty soon..

Thanx for all the good ideas!!

DS, 1, is the same, he is quite happy feeding himself, always wants a bowl and spoon but only uses the spoon to 'stir' things, even fromage frais is now finger food! He seems to be putting on weight, sleeping and crawling happily so I just keep the power washer on standby!
Favourites are pepper, cucumber, tomato, chips - homemade, burger from butcher is easier than sausage as no skin, fruit of any shape is a winner with him, meat harder with only 6 front teeth but will be enthusiastically attacked, pasta is great, even with a thick enough sauce to give some flavour/extra veg, marmite on toast or cream cheese sandwiches...

i have learnt they can eat basically anything with their hands. ds loves all these things:

Breakfast:

porridge pancakes
shredded wheat
eggy bread
crumpets
toast with cream cheese
greek yoghurt
boiled egg with soldiers
scrambled egg
poached egg
omelette
bagel with cream cheese
cup of peppermint or chamomile tea

occasionally:

pancakes
potato waffles
hash browns
sausage
sausage and egg mayo sarnies

Lunch:

quiche
hash browns
potato wedges
potato cakes
potato waffles
egg on toast
slices of chicken, beef etc
omelette (cooled and cut into squares)
use tortilla wraps or pitta bread instead of bread to make a wrap instead of a sandwich.
rice cakes
home-made crumpets
bread sticks
rice and vegetables
pasta with sauce
savoury pancakes
risotto

Dinner: takes a bit more time than the other meals but generally we rotate this sort of list.

quesadillas
kedgeree
chicken kievs
shepherds pie
fish pie
waffles
potato cakes
hash browns
fish cakes
fish fingers
chicken/turkey goujons
sausages
chicken curry
burritos
fajitas
curried eggs with rice

bloody hell nappyaddict, can I come eat at your house?!

nappyaddict · 04/02/2008 23:40

you can but i don't think there's anything particularly special in that last. i don't do fancy cooking - i'm a bung it all in and hope for the best cook.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 05/02/2008 21:41

that list made me hungry, that's all

what are porridge pancakes? how do you make them??

nappyaddict · 06/02/2008 00:53

Basically, put a thin layer of porridge oats into a round flat bowl.Add milk or water to cover. Give it a stir, smooth over and stick it in the microwave for about a minute. Leave it to cool and set. The fridge will speed this up. Then peel out of the bowl and voila. Ds likes philadelphia spread on his!

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 06/02/2008 17:11

darn, no microwave.

bet I could do it in a pan though, if I was feeling clever...
