Weaning
Tummy ache in early days of weaning

I started weaning with little mouthfuls of veg purees and oat porridge almost a month ago, and while baby has not had any symptoms of allergies or any constipation really (poos 1-2 times a day and doesn't seem to have trouble passing it), he's started having tummy aches at night now. He's been sleeping badly since the 4 month regression that started almost 3 months ago, but used to be easy to settle back to sleep. Now he'll wake up crying and nothing soothes him until he wriggles around and farts. Is this something all babies have to get through while they adjust to digesting other foods or should we take a break?
I haven't even introduced anything new this week, and he's been extra gassy. Two days ago we had a break and he slept a little better and no crying, then last night I gave him two small spoonfuls of oat porridge, which he has had several times before, and he was up for a cry and a fart at 2am ☹️

Ok so if they're six months do they show the signs of readiness?
Just asking as not all do by 6 months

Oh yes, has done for a while which is why we've already started

In that case then I'd leave the oats for a few days in case they're the problem and just offer food in the morning so they've got plenty of chance to digest it before bed

My DD had exactly this when I started her on baby porridge. She was in visible discomfort and up loads in the night (was going though before). I swapped to baby rice mixed with breast milk and stuck with just this for a week to let her body adjust. Have now started introducing veg. She is back to her normal self now and sleeping through again

Thanks, so pause on the oats for now then and maybe I’ll try rice. Or stick to veg and fruits for a bit.

Sounds like a good plan, let us know how you get on
