6 month lo being weaned ...just been ill with fever

tried food again today and he had his little pot but cried when food placed in mouth ...however he opened mouth when seeing food ...

finished food but cried upon it being placed in mouth...

he was ok to keep going but been wondering what this crying could be...

gum pain? new texture? too lumpy? too much going on after being ill?

most odd esp considering would then open mouth after stopped crying and finish dish!

Still ill, or feeling a bit poorly..or could be tired???

Frizbe · 27/01/2008 20:11

I'd say just feeling poorly still and probably hungry and realising he's gotta go through the eating process to get that full feeling rather than that nice sucky drinky approach

bumbly · 27/01/2008 20:12

yes wondering just as soon as food in mouth it started as "biting" then sometimes he stopped then started again when spoon in mouth

but never turned away or shut mouth

perhaps new texture??

sorry meant started crying as soon as biting commenced

frizbe that could be it as it seemed he wanted more form spoon as if he wanted instant feeling - like he gets with milk!!

only guessing

could too much noise/distraction (could not help/stop in laws clapping etc) around him cause that cryin?

might be worth getting the gp to check he hasn't got an ear infection. I imagine that would put him off chewing.

they are a nightmare with food and milk after being ill. Apparently it can take a month for them to recover to taking their normal amounts.

Octothechildherder · 27/01/2008 20:16

mine does that when he is cutting teeth

talktothebees · 27/01/2008 20:17

I would also cry if I a couple of old people were whooping it up in my face while I was trying to have my dinner. Even more so if I was feeling poorly.

Octothechildherder · 27/01/2008 20:27

I think I missed the whooping old people

oh gosh, what's the rush bumbly? can't you just give him milk until you're super-sure he's okay? dd goes madly off her food when she's been ill, it's really totally logical. milk's easy to eat, easy to digest, has all those lovely comforting associations... personally i wouldn't be doing anything 'new' while she might still be feeling under par. i know your baby is eating but if she's crying...she's only 6 months old, it's nothing to wait another week or so until you think she's fine.

Frizbe · 29/01/2008 23:26

how's he doing then?

callmeovercautious · 29/01/2008 23:33

A bit late - but DD does this of teething and if tired. She was BLW (well started on Puree but was converted very early) so she self feeds really well. Today She cried when she was put in the highchair and threw things at me. She ate something eventually but was not keen on her usual faves.
