Hi, im a FTM and just started weaning my LO.

He is just over 5 and half months old (he will be 6 months next week) and started weaning him just over a week ago as my husband was home as this scares me.

We have started with dinner and also giving pouches at the moment until we know what he likes then will start doing fresh food. He currently eats approx 35g of a 70g pouch as we stop giving it to him as we dont know how much to give. I have read three weaning books but each one says something slighty different.

He seems to be happy to eat so should we be giving him more of the pouch if he wants it? We are currently giving him a different flavour everyday.

He is also having 5 bottles a day and our routine is like this:
6am - 7oz milk
10am - 7oz milk
1.30pm - 7oz milk
5pm - solids (approx 30g of puree)
5.30pm - 7oz milk
9.30pm - 8oz milk

Any idea if this is okay as one book says solids before milk whereas the other says solids after milk?

Any advice on the times welcome but please be kind.

I'd give him as much as he wants but that's a long time to go without milk or solids.

I'd change the afternoon slightly so that he has milk at 4-4.30 ish and solids a hour later. The current advice is solids roughly an hour after milk for a good while yet.

Also, there's no rush. The NHS doesn't recommend moving to 3 meals a day until they are 9 months so you've got lots of time to experiment with food and timings yet Wink

It's just about tasting foods at the moment rather than how much is swallowed. Try to give your foods rather than pouches, they have such a different texture to actual food. Exposing him to a variety of flavours is best. Don't over think it.. look up how to cut up foods if giving finger foods. Take his lead, he'll show you.
