a fountain of returned mush cascaded gracefully out when he gagged on a a piece of "real" food today. Thought he would have stopped gagging so much by now - anyone else had a dc who was a late starter in the finger food area? It is sad because he's desparate to eat like his big brother...and I'd rather give him something less mushy and more like our food, too.

My DD gagged and threw up for a long time. I started weening on purees at six months so think she was about your son's age when
i started her on lumpier food. It took quite a few months for her to get used to it and I became paranoid she was going to choke. Now at 2.3 she rams food down at a rapid rate of knots with no problem

i know one woman on my website whose baby gagged and puked until one day, at 9 months, it stopped. she said it was like the clouds had parted.
not long now, hopefully.

my ds was late starter with weaning, but once he cottoned onto it he couldn't stop! He is 15 months now and eats more thab 4yo dd, so don't despair.

Or you could just do as the French do and not give them finger foods until later and not stress about it. If you read French baby sites, they're totally unbothered about giving finger foods till past one or so - they just give them lumpier mashed food. And French babies seem to develop fine.

I just fancy seeing him with a chunk of fruit in his chubby paw...ds1 would only eat mush from 12-18 months while teething so maybe I am just fated to puree for one reason or another...oh well at least the hand-held processor is proving value for money
