Moving onto Meat... doesn't like it?

Has anyone had a LO that hasn't really taken to the move to chicken, beef etc?

we are struggling getting him to eat anything savoury on the veg side so HV suggested moving onto meat etc. to try and vary things a bit.

He had had spag bol and roast chicken, potato, peas (mushed with milk not gravy). And didn't like either. Also made him sweetcorn chowder on veg stock. That didn't work either.

Does it just take time?

How old is he?

WigWamBam · 21/01/2008 18:07

I wouldn't worry too much really, it's obviously early days and there's plenty of time to get him used to tastes of different sorts of food.

Try him again in a couple of weeks and you might see a difference.

He is between 6 1/2 and 7 months.

I am really trying to be relaxed... its just so demoralising when all this good food is going to waste!

He's probably a little young for chewy meat. My three year old still doesn't like beef too much, although chicken is a big favourite now.

I think you're being courageously ambitious . Try him with fish fingers .. that should slowly get him used to denser textures.

And eggy bread ... I bet he'll love that!

My dd is 23 months and still won't eat meat, except for sausages, ikea meatballs, Tesco's minted lamb kebabs and one particular type of chicken ball - ie highly processed crap meat!

When weaning her I did make the chicken and apple sausages from Aitch's blog, and she would eat those quite happily, so I made them in bulk and froze them.

my ds is 14 mo and really won't meat if it requires any chewing! So i usually have to whizz it up or chop up really small for him! Think he will eat sausage in pieces but thats about it. Its weird coz he will chew other stuff, i figure he will grow into it at some point.. all the best

I'm not a vegetarian, but I was strangely and irrationally squeamish about giving my children meat - so they didn't have it until they were more over 2. They both loved chickpeas, very thick lentil soup (but only when they could use spoons - not advised as finger food!) and fish - fish is good finger food, especially the firmer ones, like monk fish.

well DS didn't really eat anything until about 9 months! Some babies are just not ready for food, no point in forcing it

(DS now a very good eater btw)
