MamaMade etc - any good?

I’ve been hearing lots about companies that do mail order weaning/baby food - like MamaMade and Poppets. Does anyone have experience of these type of products - are they any good? Better for example than supermarket pouches? My DD is only three weeks old so I’m definitely thinking ahead 😂 but I’m intrigued, we didn’t have these kind of things when my DS was wee.

Industrially made food will taste different than homemade food. Supermarket pouches are prepared at high temperature high pressure to have a long shelf life

Frozen vegetables, as you certainly have experiences yourself, again taste differently from fresh. You can identify a cooked frozen carrot in seconds. Freezing maintains nutrients but the freezing process of a high water food will change how it tastes. The structure of the cell wall changes forever and the texture will be different.

When you wean a baby, you not only teach them to swallow something that isn't milk, but you build their taste preferences for life. They learn to like what you give them.

Just out of curiosity, buy a pouch, and taste it. It will be very hard for a child to accept real veggies when they have been weaned with industrially made meals.

There is also an abundance of baby junk such as veggies straws, melty puffs, rusks and other snacky foods. Highly palatable, zero effort, addictive and again so satisfactory that you homemade stew will be refused.

I have a book and a video for you to watch.

I've not used them no but I'd be careful of buying or subscribing to anything to do with weaning until you've got a good feel for what the baby likes.

Our first would happily eat purées but the second absolutely flatly refused purées or anything on a spoon and wanted what we were eating.

Mama Made is super bland. Poppets and Little Larder are great - ignore silly comments about “industrial” production. The last two are small batch cooked and as a working mum are complete life savers for our little one!
