How much does your 9mo eat?

My 9mo is quite a foodie at the moment, and I always worry about overfeeding him, especially as he has been struggling with constipation for most of the past 2 months, which coincided with him developing a love for his solids. We mostly have a BLW approach, but sometimes he eats what seems to be LOADS (especially as DC1 is 4 and a poor eater, so perhaps that's skewing my perspective). Sometimes I do use baby jars/pouches, and I never know how much of those he should be eating either? I know all babies are different, but would just be interested if anyone has a similar-aged babies who could share a rough guide as to the quantities your baby eats? DC1 wasn't really eating any solids at this age, just messing about and drinking loads of milk, so the complete opposite of DC2.

So mine still drinks a lot of milk, around 28oz a day so that might skew things a bit if yours drinks less! He's also a big 98th percentile baby in both weight and height.

Just using today as an example:

Breakfast: 1 wheetabix with full fat milk, a big spoon of full fat natural yoghurt and mashed blueberries and strawberries. He ate about two thirds of that. Then he had half a banana afterwards.

Lunch: Scrambled eggs (1 egg) with diced spinach, tomato, mushrooms and onions. Big spoon of ricotta cheese mixed in. Also a couple sweet potato slices. He ate almost all of this.

Snack: One of those Organix oat bars and some grapes.

Dinner: 2 beef meatballs (fairly small baby size ones - I follow a recipe that uses 50% meat and 50% veg in the meatballs), tomato sauce, pasta (maybe 10 pieces of fuselli) and diced carrots, peas, peppers. 1 small piece of homemade naan bread. Ate most of this.

Sometimes I do use baby jars/pouches, and I never know how much of those he should be eating either?

If I was to give one of these for dinner it would be one of the 1+ Year ones, the portion sizes of the 7+ month ones aren't big enough for him.

Maybe if you share what your baby eats on a typical day then people could offer some perspective?

We do about half a weetabix mixed with leftover formula from his morning bottle and mashed berries for breakfast.

then he has a mid morning bottle, then lunch is either about half an egg with peas mixed in, or half an avocado with a finger of toast, then Greek yoghurt with banana mashed in.

then a mid afternoon bottle, then for tea it’s whatever we had the night before so maybe sweet potato, peas and chicken or pasta. Hard to explain how much of that really.

then bedtime bottle.

he usually pretty much finishes it all, I don’t like waste so I don’t do massive portions, his stomach is still quite small, if he totally finishes it I’ll offer something else like yoghurt or fruit but usually he’s full up.

he drinks about 600ml formula a day. Hope this helps x
