How to work out when your child is 6 months!!

I'm leaving weaning until 6 months - but when exactly is 6 months?! Do you count a month as 4 weeks, or go by the calendar date? eg. DS was born on Thursday 13th September - so do I count it from 13th September to 13th October to 13th November etc. Or do I count 4 Thursdays as being one month? I know the 6 month thing is only a guideline so it doesn't matter much either way, but depending on which method of counting you choose it does alter the date by a few weeks, so I'm curious what method most people use

I counted 6 calendar months - dd born in July - so 6 months was on teh same date in January!

I took it as 26 weeks which is half a year obviously. Although strted ds2 at 24 weeks as he was ready then.

If you go by 4 weeks to a month (which there isn't) your baby will only be 5 months and about 2 weeks old at 6 x 4 weeks

So one vote for calendar months, one vote for 4 week blocks... (Colditz, yes, that's what I meant - that one method leaves you a few weeks short).

No not voying for 4 week blocks. I think 26 weeks is pretty much 6 calender months, depending on the months probably

But I think the guideline is actually 26 weeks. Same as when people used to say 4 months it was actually 17 weeks.

hermykne · 13/01/2008 14:13

i did calender months.

When will you celebrate the baby's birthday? 12x4 weeks from birth or 12 months from birth?

6 months is the same thing - 6 calendar months.

jabuti · 13/01/2008 20:28

if you are following the guidelines, is 26 weeks the recommended for weaning, its not counted as months.

Tinkjon · 13/01/2008 23:27

Hunker, obviously will celebrate birthday as 12 months from birth - nobody celebrates 12 x 4 weeks! But that doesn't change the fact that there are 2 different methods of counting... seems from what people are saying that it is counted in weeks then, thanks everyone!
