When to offer a second meal

We have been weaning for just over 2 weeks now and I am still offering baby just 1 meal and it's usually afternoon. When should I introduce another meal like breakfast or lunch? He is not really eating anything still more just exploring the food and sucking it then spitting it out etc so should I wait until he is properly eating and sealing before offering another? Baby was 6 months on 2nd April.

Mine was 6 months on 11th April. I've been giving him 2 meals. I say meals - but they are very small portions.

Breakfast: 3 to 4 baby spoons of baby porridge, some banana (he likes to mash this up)

Lunch/Dinner: Pureed carrot/vegetables, blueberrys/strawberrys as his finger food

Following.

Going to start weaning soon and was thinking of doing breakfast and then something about 3pm.

Are you doing BLW?

You can start whenever you want. I used to offer DS something every time I had something (but it was something small, like a spoon of yoghurt or a bit of banana/mashed potato, not a full meal. Little and often. It’s just for fun for the first month or two.

I did a starting solids course at the children's centre and they encouraged us to get up to 3 'meals' a day soon after starting at six months. We did lunch first, added in tea after a week, then breakfast after another week. By 7 months she had more idea about eating it.

We did half puree and half finger food at most meals - basically whatever we were having so something like cottage pie puréed with broccoli as a finger food. Or some porridge with banana as finger food for breakfast.

We did 2 meals at 8 months, 3 at 10 months. I followed solid starts on Instagram

Oh and it's a heck of a lot easier if you do they're 'meals' at the same time as yours - less prep work and they see you eating and it helps give them the idea.

Mine didn't really get it for the first week or so, then somehow managed to pick up and eat half a blueberry - light dawned on her face as she'd twigged what she was meant to do, and after that she was off!
